The Standard Authoring SDK package is a user-friendly interfacing and build-in quality control, software development kit, for creating customized DVD titles. All functional routines in the package have been developed and constructed under Microsoft Visual C++ compiler (6.0) environment. They are in a type of Regular DLL with MFC statically linked. The authoring engine provides the basic multiplexing routines for forming VOB (Video Object) files, and the placement of stream addresses and video/audio time stamps in IFO (Information) files. The authoring engine also creates graphic menus and highlight buttons based upon the user-provided bitmaps. Menus and buttons in DVD contents play a roll of navigating presentation sequences. The DVD volume created by authoring engine shall be fully compliant with DVD-Video Book (Rev 1.11). In the recording portion, the writelib automatically detects the type of loaded disc before writing DVD data onto rewritable or recordable discs. The disc types that can be recognized by writelib are ranging from -R/RW to +R/RW including DVD+R dual layer and CD-R/RW. The writelib also generates a complete disc image file meeting ISO9660/UDF Bridge format when the disc image file is planned for exporting. For those movie titles requiring subtitles, the subtitle creation engine or subtitle library is the dedicated tool in the package for preparing subtitles frames before the final authoring. Parameter entry to different routines is usually considered lengthy and troublesome procedures. The SDK package provides a friendly interface environment for user. Under this environment, users can write all necessary parameters in a XML file prior to activating the authoring engine. The built-in XML parser in the library is able to interpret the elements in each line in the XML file, and therefore it populates all necessary parameters in each functional object in the program. A conventional function call is provided to user, and user owns the option to pick whichever is suitable for the project.
