Standard DVD Authoring and Recording SDK

Disc Recording Support

The disc recording capacity in the Standard SDK refers to DVD disc burning. The writelib library implements Microsoft ‘I/O Control’ functions and ‘SCSI Pass Through’ routines for sending and receiving packet commands to and from the devices (burner). Running this library under Microsoft Windows NT based operating system, user is not required to install ASPI drivers.

Writelib implements a large among of codes for supporting and detecting various disc types available on the market.

  • DVD-R discs

  • DVD-RW discs

  • DVD+R discs

  • DVD+R dual layer disc

  • DVD+RW discs

  • CD-R discs

  • CD-RW discs

User may choose the option to either import a disc image file to the library or import the whole Video_ts folder to the library for final recording.

When a disc image file is being imported to the library, the routine writes the whole image file to the media directly. When the entry is a DVD folder, which is containing all VOB files and IFO files, the routine will first verify the entire stream addresses recorded in the IFO files. In this way, it ensures the DVD file structure being built correctly by the authoring program. Therefore the resulting recordable disc can be in the highest player compatibilities.

The recording routine in the writelib library formats the DVD files according to UDF/ISO9660 Bridge Spec. The finished disc is fully compliant with DVD Standards, and it is readable on personal computers under different operating system.

Writelib supports hybrid data structure. In a hybrid writing process, the library completes the writing for DVD files prior to writing data files. Data files are the files not being related to DVD video streams. Data files will not affect any DVD navigation during DVD play back.
