DLT Tape PreMastering SDK (Beta)

DLT Tape Writing Support

Today, the DLT tape is widely used to carry DVD video and audio data generated by authoring workstation, to the disc replication system. The tape itself can be loaded on the equipment and the data on the tape may be read and compiled to form a master glass and stampers.

Data written to the tape has to follow certain rules such as the proper order of the file location, correct tape labels and file marks between files, and, more importantly, the format of each file.

The rules for writing a DLT tape for DVD mastering was first developed by Doug Carson and Associates in July 1997. The very first version was labeled as DDP. Since then, DDP version 2.00 has been widely adopted in DVD replication industry. Until April 1999, DVD Forum released DVD Cutting Master Specification 1.00 (CMF) and it is technically equivalent to DDP 2.10.

In CMF 1.00, it has made more precise definitions on CSS (Content Scramble System) using the VOB Location Table for describing sector addresses in which sectors are containing CSS. The latest CMF 1.20 includes copyright protection scheme for DVD-Audio - The Copy Protection for Prerecorded Media ("CPPM"). In the latest version the DLT is no longer the sole media. The Exabyte tape and Sony AIT also can be used in the application.

The SDK has built-in versification for parsing DDP and control data on the tape. User may verify the stream before sending the tape to replicator.

To execute verification, user can dump the whole tape or can just retrieve DDP and Control Data streams. If user chooses to dump the whole tape, a third part image analyzer tool may be applied to examine the image stream. Such toll may ‘mount’ the image to the hard disk so it presents as a Video_Ts folder and Audio_Ts folder on the hard disk.
